My good friend James “WhatleyDude” Whatley is hosting an event this Friday at a very chic and popular coffee shop called the Tuttle Club in London. Now I’m not just name dropping because James in a Webrity (web celebrity, thanks to Ewan for coining this) we really are friends and I really do have some thoughts on the topic they’re going to be discussing “future of voice”. Basically where is voice going to be in the future. James works for SpinVox (a sponsor for Mobile Geeks of Las Vegas along with Yougetitback.com) a hugely popular voice to text firm who’s bread and butter is translating voice mail to sms text messages.
Now I have my own unique opinions as to where voice is going to be in the next few years. I think we are going to see a down turn in traditional voice on mobile phones and see an upswing in the use of mobile VOIP. For example Truphone a mobile VOIP provider is working to make it so we can use our mobile phones anywhere in the world at any time to make “mobile VOIP” calls. I think this is going to take off like wild fire because of the cost of the calls. It’s ridiculously cheap to make calls over the internet and the sound quality is amazing. I also think we will see an upswing in the use of data (the internet) on mobile phones in the near future. I think many people will start using IM services like Fring and EQO to be in contact with people versus making a phone call.
This will all mean that the general public will be looking for higher and all you can eat data plans for their mobiles and let’s hope the mobile telcos understand this is where a great deal of future money will come from so let’s speed up and dumb down the internet pipe.
If you want to meet up with James and the rest of the Tuttle crew you can join them Friday morning starting at The Cafe itself, or The Tuttle Club (as it is often fondly referred to as), runs from 10am ’til 1pm above The Coach & Horses on Greek St. If you are so inclined afterwards, (once the coffee has been finished and the croissants have been munched), SpinVox will be staying on for a couple of hours to host a discussion in and around The Future of Voice.
If you’re interested in going (to the SMC and/or to the discussion afterwards) please either sign up at the LondonSocialMediaClubWiki or email James directly here: james.whatley@spinvox.com.
Unfortunatly I won’t be able to attend, seeing that I live 7,000 miles or so away but I’m hoping to get to see some video and pictures from the event.
