i going to have e72 in few days right now i am using nokia 6500 slide having 3.2 mp camera with carl zeiss . can u advise me in terms of picture quality ,will e72 give me same quality pics as 6500

You are absolutely right Rkhi. I kind of hoped for a dedicated camera key but E72 really is not the right device for it.

I read somewhere in last couple of days that that’s exactly how Nokia will implement the camera operation on the E72, i.e.
- touch the optical pad -> focus
- push the optical pad button -> takes the picture
Maybe someone in Espoo was listening to users after all!

It would sure be nice if Nokia included what you are talking about. I haven’t heard anything about that but I’ll be sure to check it as soon as I get an E72.

About the shutter button, there’s something I’ve been thinking since it was confirmed that the E72 has an optical pad: there’s actually a way to have a ‘proper’ shutter key now.
You see, if Nokia want to get it right this time they would implement the shutter like this:
- touch the optical pad -> focus
- push the optical pad button -> takes the picture

Fairly simple and straightforward if you ask me, but there’s also something telling me that we won’t be seeing such a great use of the optical pad ’cause Nokia seems to be shortsighted lately (so much failures on the SW front)…
Hope I’m mistaking though, we’ll see…

Ashutosh,
As far as I know the E72 should have a nice bump up from the E71 in terms of ram and internal memory. I can’t comment on the speed until I give it a try.
I appreciate that people read my blog and take their precious time to comment on it. The least I can do is comment back and interact with them.

wow. Jeb. I read lot of blogs and my rss is chock a block. But your site is amazing in terms of interactivity! You interact with every commentator on your blog!
I don’t know if i am still ready for e72. The camera sounds fine but i will wait for 6 months after the launch to find out if everything with it is as good as promised.
But specs wise, i don’t think anything else comes even near to it. The deal clincher for me would not be the camera but the speediness, more internal memory and faster processor. You review one on those, and then i would see if my small pocket has enough in it for this beauty.

I’m really disappointed about the lack of a shutter key mostly but the flash also for me is kind of a bummer but I didn’t really expect it. I just don’t get why we can’t have a shutter key on the E72 since they put a shutter key on the E75 and E55.

The 5mp camera on the E72 is another piece of good news for the E-series, as the 3.2mp camera on the E75 was. But you must remember that the megapixel count is not what matters most; there are a lot of things that factor in when it comes to image quality. The E75’s and 5800’s cameras, for example, are both of the same resolution but the 5800’s use Carl Zeiss lens, which makes for some difference. But I have to admit, the 5mp camera on this E-series device is rather tempting, but the lack of Xenon flash, a dedicated shutter key and the smallish sensor puts me off. My N82 does most of the job of my Nikon P&S since May 2008, and it’s been doing it wonderfully.
