Very exciting for people desperate for better AT&T reception in their home on their mobile phones. A Microcell (basically the same as a Femtocell) is set to hit a limited number of markets very soon and hopefully go nationwide quickly. This is a huge step forward for AT&T but even more importantly it’s a big step for the industry trying to roll out better 3G. Femtocells have been talked about for years but now that the largest mobile carrier in the US is adopting them maybe we’ll see added adoption and potentially more mobile VOIP adoption. I also wonder how this will affect T-Mobiles UMA effort. Here’s to dreaming and here’s a link to the Engadget article that brought this to my attention, thanks Chris Z.
