Blackberry is in trouble, I mean deep trouble. The trend lately has been for anyone and everyone to go out and pick up a smart phone when it’s time for a new phone. People are no longer just getting ultra basic phones and only making calls and sending sms on them. The masses want more from their device, they expect a phone to check the weather, access Twitter, surf the net, get driving directions and I think most common, offer email access. Email has been a staple for Blackberry since it’s inception and for the most part they have done a great job with it. Of course some people have a few niggles here and there but bar none Blackberry was the mobile email standard.

Up until a few years ago mobile email was kept in the echelons of the corporate executive and the upper class. Recently it has gone mainstream (do to Rims excellent marketing) and Rim has been able to milk that and in some peoples minds create a demand for mobile email for all. Well Rim may have kicked themselves in the shorts. They created a void with people who want mobile email but can’t afford or don’t want/need a Blackberry device. People who want email on their phone now have more options then ever and don’t need to stick to a Blackberry. This means Rim may be seeing a mass exodus to other popular devices like the iPhone, Palm Pre and Nokias vast number of smart phones. Let’s not forget the dozens of smart phones that go unnamed but can handle downloading apps. Blackberry is in serious trouble because now most phones can do email and in my circles everyone buying a new phone is getting a non Blackberry smart phone. They are going for the iPhone,Nokia N97/E71/E75/6650/Surge, or Palm Pre.

Up until recently Rim has had a hold on the market and they’ve done such good product placement and advertising job even kids were getting Berries in mass. It was the hip cool device to have. Now times are shifting and people want more from their devices like better music player, camera, and video players.

emoze along with a few other email apps are filling the instant email void. To the best of my knowledge emoze is the only option that will work on multiple platforms, including smart & dumb phones, Symbian S60, Windows Mobile, and push your email. If you’re interested emoze (a client of mine) has a paid (about $13/yr) option and a free version. Check it out at www.emoze.com.

Rim you need to get back to work and not stand on your laurels or you will get cut off at the knees. You have something very good going but you need to rethink how you’re getting the word out and work on the younger hip crowd again. Rim are you listening? Ping me and we can talk.

Nothing is perfect but emoze is the closest thing out there right now, at least in my case. I have a long comparison post coming of many of the different email solutions, hold tight and I’ll get it up as soon as I can.

My answer to all of them is emoze. All the companies provide phones for their employees but they also pay a significant amount of money for push email. It’s something that they have all grown to count on and many of them use in place of instant messenger. They also can’t live without it but can’t afford to pay for it anymore.

emoze is a push email system that is free for a single account, $13/year for an account with multiple emails to access and there’s also a price for companies with multiple licenses. In my opinion this is the answer they’re looking for. Some companies implementing Emoze will save many thousands of dollars but keep everything they have gotten used to with push email. emoze was tested against Blackberry push email a few years back and beat them in terms of speed.

emoze is a great at downloading reading and responding via Gmail, Hotmail, MSN, OWA (Outlook Web Access), Exchange and just today announced their support of AOL.

I use emoze and it is a great alternative to high priced push email services. You can see a video of it here.
If you have any questions emoze is available on Twitter at Twitter.com/emozePushEmail

I am a heavy email user and I use Emoze on most of my E71 and N95 8gig. I would like to see Nokia add an option for email and for that matter sms, to be saved on my memory card and not the phone itself. Getting as much email as I do I read a great deal of it via Emoze and then forget about it. My problem is that some of my phones don’t have gigabytes of built in memory so they tend to fill up on email.

So Nokia I propose you give us the user the option of where we want our email stored. Taking this the next step I would really like to be able to keep the last 3 days of email on my phone and the rest on my memory card. So every day the email that came in 4 days ago is transferred to the card and removed from the phone.

I don’t know if this is reasonable but I hope it’s at least considered. Â Anybody else have some thoughts on this?

You can download Emoze directly to your mobile from m.emoze.com
You can buy a Nokia E71 here

As a whole in terms of announcements, hardware and software it was quite a boring show. I did get to play with the Nokia E71x, N97 and E75 (I got to take one of these home, I have a review coming), those were the only 2 pieces of phone hardware I liked and found interesting. I did get an earphone/microphone to test, it will turn an iTouch into a VOIP phone using Truphone (one of my favorite apps of all time).

The other interesting application I saw and have been using of late is Emoze (a client of mine). It’s a 3rd party app you download on your phone to give you a greatly enhanced email experience. I like it because it connects to my Gmail, it also has the ability to connect you to Yahoo, Hotmail, and Facebook. It also syncs with Outlook and has a good OWA (Outlook Web Access) interface.

I can’t forget that I saw Nimbuzz and really like what they’re doing with all the different communications methods they’re enabling people with now.

All in all it was a pretty boring show as shows go.

So in the last few years I have become a bit of a mobile email junkie. I think I have been doing mobile email for about 5 years now, I know I’m late to the game compared to some. I had a very interesting conversation with a “high up” from AT&T last night. I was very interested with what he had to say when it came to mobile email. Now I’m not going to reveal any propriatary numbers but he was telling me that young people are spending a very significant amount of time typing versus talking on their mobiles. AT&T has a few handsets specifically geared toward messaging with QWERTY keyboards, I’m hoping to play with some of these next week.

Now my question is how are they getting to their email? Are they using services like Emoze (client of mine) who provides a very useful and enhanced user interface for your email? Are people using an email client that comes built in on the handset when they purchase it? Are they downloading the Gmail Java app for use with only Gmail? I’m really curious how people access their email on mobile handsets? I’m guessing most people just use what comes built in.

If you’re a user of mobile email or you want to be there are a bunch of different 3rd party applications that are free and downloadable. Now I will find out next week at CTIA if any of the AT&T handsets are able to download apps. I’m guessing they can at least run a Java apps like Emoze has.

Please let me know what you use for mobile email.

Update just before I hit publish: AT&T will be selling the epic Nokia E71 and the rumor is it will run $99 on a new contract.

In case you don’t know what Emoze is, it’s an email application for your handset that provides the user with free push email. In tests Emoze has been known to be surprisingly faster then Blackberry push email. It’s basically push email for the masses. You don’t have to be a big time executive at some corporation, or willing to pay the extra money for push email to have it now – you just need to download Emoze. Anybody can get Emoze for free. It will work on over 3 dozen different brands of devices and at least 4 of the major platforms, bringing instant email to the people.

When I most recently downloaded Emoze to give it another go-around, it was up and running in just a few minutes. I was collecting my messages and was ready to conquer the email world. It was a pretty painless procedure sending myself an sms from the Emoze website and then using the link in it to download the app. I was happily surprised to see how nice and business-like Emoze looked and acted. I’m testing Emoze on a Nokia N95 8gig and really enjoying it. I’ve had a few hiccups that I believe are due to the phone, but as a whole it’s been a really nice experience. Keep up the good work Emoze.

Now go download Emoze onto your mobile from m.emoze.com and let me know what you think.
